Erwann Strauss
Erwann Strauss was born in Marseille and began studying classical dance at the age of 6 at the Marseille
Conservatory. At the age of 14 he was admitted to the school of the Marseille
Opera Theatre and began his professional career by joining the ballet corps of the
theatre and performing various ballets of the classical repertoire such as: “The Sleeping Beauty”
with Noella Pontois (Etoile International), “La fille mal gardée” with Monique Loudiere and
Charles Jude (both Etoiles of the Paris Opera).

At 18 he joined the “Europa Ballet” company under the direction of J.Donn (Etoile of M.
Bejart), and then continued at the Trianon theatre in Paris and as a soloist at the Toulon Opera
where he danced “The Sleeping Beauty” with E. Platel (Etoile of the Paris Opera). Later he dances in several French theaters such as Avignon Opera, production of “Faust” with Eric Vu An
(Etoile Opera of Paris), Limoges Opera, Metz Opera, and in several theaters in Germany
such as Stath Oper of Dusseldorf, Stath Oper of Hagen, interpreting choreographies by J. Kylian
and J. Robbins.
In ’97 the diploma of Master of classical and contemporary dance issued by the
French State.
In Italy he is called in ’98 by D. Ganio to work in the company “Balletto di Milano”
for the show “Tango, una rosa per Jorge Donn”, performed in several Italian theaters
and in ’99 also at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow; he worked as a principal dancer at the Teatro
Bellini of Catania and later works with the choreographer G. Carbone in the productions “Rite of Spring”, “Carmina Burana”, Romeo and Juliet”. He then went on tour as a
soloist in Asia in the production “Roman Holiday” with Mario Marozzi. He
then performed in “Carmen” with Fara Grieco.
Since 2000 he has been regularly called to be part of the French jury for the competitions of the
French Dance Federation held in Tahiti, French Polynesia, Martinique and
Guadeloupe, in the Caribbean.
In 2004 he began teaching at various Italian companies (“Balletto di
Milano”, directed by D. Ganio, “Balletto Nazionale ‘80”, directed by G. Carbone, “Balletto di
Roma”, directed by Bozzolini-Bartolomei). He has held lessons at the company of the Teatro
dell’Opera di Roma, under the artistic direction of Carla Fracci. Since 2006 he has held lessons for
professionals in various facilities in Rome (Ials, Opificio in Movimento, Aid); during the academic year 2006-2007 he was a guest professor at the Balletto di Roma school.
